They're safe in the Drawer until they're joined to the family again. To bring them back, open the card of who they belong with, press +, choose Find someone on the tree and type their name. For example, if your cousin Bill was left on his own after a fix, open his dad's card, press +, find Bill and add him as a son.

On any card → the golden + (opens "Add a connection to Dave")
Only people with the "Add people" tick.
