So nobody ends up floating loose on your tree. When you merge someone from the People builder or a GEDCOM file, the merge page asks about each of their relatives, one at a time – parents, then partners, children, brothers and sisters. Already on your tree and joined? Nothing to do. On your tree but not joined? Press Yes – join them or No – leave them as they are. Not found? It offers that person's own family on your tree first, then anyone who might be a match, then Someone else on my tree… to search. Saying they're not on your tree yet adds nobody there and then, so no little groups of strangers – they wait on the last screen, ready to add already joined. For example, say the file says Grandad George's father was William – the merge page offers George's own dad on your tree first. If you can use Safe edit, it switches on by itself for these questions, and nothing is saved until Save and merge them.
